Country Fried Chicken
Crispy buttermilk-breaded chicken covered with a rich, peppery homemade country gravy.

Ingredients
- 2 large chicken breasts, sliced in half horizontally (about 1.5 lb / 680 g)
- 1 cup buttermilk (240 mL)
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (180 g)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- Vegetable oil for frying
Country Gravy
- 4 tbsp butter (56 g)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (30 g)
- 2 cups whole milk (480 mL)
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
Directions
- In a bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Dip chicken into the buttermilk mixture, then coat thoroughly in the seasoned flour.
- Let the breaded chicken rest for 10 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and drain briefly.
- For the gravy, melt butter in a saucepan.
- Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in milk while whisking continuously.
- Cook until thickened, then season with salt and pepper.
- Pour gravy generously over the fried chicken and serve immediately.
