Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (250 g)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (50 g)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100 g)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (110 g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (120 mL)
  • 1 cup whole milk (240 mL)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (255 g), divided

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a muffin pan with paper liners.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, vegetable oil, milk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, then fold in 1 cup of the chocolate chips.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin liners.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips generously over the tops of the muffins.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Let cool slightly and serve warm.
